The seventh day
Genesis 2 begins not with another act of making but with completion. The heavens and earth are described as finished, and the seventh day is marked by God resting from the work of creation.

The human story begins in four visual scenes.
Genesis 2 moves from the completed creation into a closer human-scale narrative: the seventh day, the formation of the man from the ground, the garden and its command, and the creation of the woman as human companionship. Genesis 2:4–7
From dust to living breath
The perspective suddenly moves close to the earth. The passage describes a world before cultivated plants and rain, with moisture rising from the ground.

The narrative now gives the man a place. A garden is planted in Eden, filled with trees that are pleasant to see and good for food.

Not good to be alone
For the first time in the biblical creation narrative, something is described as not good: the man is alone. Animals are brought before him and named, but none is a corresponding human companion.
